Let’s face facts: kids can be some of the hardest-to-please people that you will ever come across in your life. So while a cosy trip to the zoo or local museum might seem to be a good suggestion for your little angel’s birthday party, rest assured they and their mates will have a totally different idea.

And that idea will probably involve them splatting each other with paint while simultaneously rolling around in as much mud as possible.

In short, your kids want to go paintballing, so you’d better get used to it!

And why not? Paintball’s an excellent way for your kids and their mates to let off steam in the fresh air without getting into trouble with the local constabulary.

Your probably always reading how kids don’t get enough exercise these days – well that problem can be solved in one foul swoop without them even realising that charging around the woods is actually doing them some good as well.

So don’t look at it as a rough and ready day out, look at it as a cross country run with paint! Freshly-laundered overalls will be provided so although it’s probably best not to send your kids out in their Sunday best, you can take comfort that you won’t have to spend hours washing paint-splattered clothes either.

But how safe will your little cherubs be? Well, paintball sites take health and safety very seriously because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t stay in business very long.

Kids will also get all the safety equipment they’ll need plus a full briefing before picking up a paint gun. They’ll be told head shots are illegal, that they should always listen to the site marshals and that being safe comes first, second and third.

In short, your kids will get some exercise, responsibility and discipline – all without knowing a thing about it. Why not join them? They may also fall asleep in the car on the way home, although unfortunately that can’t be guaranteed!

One last thing to remember: it’s a legal requirement that all paintballers must be at least 12 years of age, while those under 16 will need written consent from a parent or guardian.
